The Vermeer exhibition {10 February 2023- 4 June 2023} at the Rijksmuseum explores the artist’s ties to the city of Delft during the mid-16th century along with his relationship to local genre painters such as Paulus Potter and Emanuel de Witte.
The Rijksmuseum brought together almost all of Vermeer’s known works; 28 of his 37 paintings then displayed them in the largest showing ever. Viewing scenes of tranquil interiors or detailed perspectives of everyday living was spectacular, and on each photographed painting I focused in on details within the scene. Vermeer’s mastery of perspective and lighting let’s us know this is how his surroundings looked, yet the world is invented!
