Summer Fruit

During the summer I enjoy spending a day or two at the grocery store or farmers market checking out the season’s latest produce, but last week a friend told me that Hmart had Jackfruit on sale, and I couldn’t wait to get to the closest store for a purchase. Choosing wasn’t difficult as all the produce appeared fresh and looked great so, I got one that would yield enough fruit for the family.

The health and beauty benefits of a watermelon is astounding and always a lure. Besides creating delicious salads or making a tasty drink in the blender, melons of any kind make summer worthwhile. And, don’t forget watermelon by itself on a hot, humid day is probably the best treat to stay hydrated and cool.

Stay cool,
Kathleen

  1. Happy summer Kathleen . I’m glad you mentioned watermelon keeps you hydrated. At the senior center that I go to, one of the nutritionist that comes in regularly told us that watermelon or any kind of melons and cucumbers as well keep us just as hydrated as drinking glasses of water.

  2. I am dazzled by the photograph. I have never heard of Jack fruit. but it looks wonderfully exotic. I live on the West Coast near Vancouver. We have a long growing season, but to equal the appearance of this fruit. Cheers Virginia

    1. I have a dear friend from Vietnam who shared this info regarding Jackfruit, and as you stated it is wonderfully exotic. She said it’s used in cooking to enhance the flavor of a soup/stew or stir-fry. It tastes like peach and apple along with a nutty flavor. If you come across this produce, definitely give it a try!!!
