Tidal Basin

On Tuesday morning an old friend of mine and I decided to take a break from the ordinary to play tourist in the District of Columbia. We started out with breakfast at Pho 75 in Falls Church for a small bowl of flank steak soup to warm us on such a cold day. We took the subway from Dunn Loring to the District to see a few art galleries and the Cheery Blossoms.

The Yoshino cherry trees were a gift from the Japanese ambassador and his wife in March 1912. These trees are the predominant species in the park and align the northern bank of the Potomac River. During peak season the Tidal Basin looks like fluffy pink and white clouds. It was a beautiful day to get away from the daily grind.

Stay stylish,

Destination: Amsterdam

A few of us spent a long weekend in Amsterdam enjoying its rich history and culture. It’s a refreshingly approachable city to discover by walking or using the GVB Tram system. Each compact neighborhood unfolds revealing elaborate canal systems, narrow town homes with gabled facades. There are some of the most spectacular cheese shops dotted throughout where you can buy a slice or wedge to go with a bit of ham, crusty bread and wine.

The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House were on our list of places to visit. Rembrandt House was under renovation and wouldn’t reopen until March 18th, but the Rijksmuseum had a few of his pieces worth seeing.

The days were cloudy, rainy and had the best wind gusts. For me walking was the best way to see all of Amsterdam.

Travel stylishly,
Kathleen
