Loving November

November is an extremely social time of year and marks the beginning of the winter holiday season. We focus on family, friends, and food along with reaching out to those in need. There is much to be thankful for this month starting with Stylish turning nine. I so enjoy creating blog post, sharing ideas and communicating with fellow bloggers. Here are a few other items I’m currently loving!

There’s a new French restaurant called Bistro du Jour on the Wharf in DC that I cannot wait to review. It’s just opened and feels positively Parisienne, I can’t wait to taste the Coq au Vin!!!

Robert Therrien’s objects are quite ordinary and familiar. The usual household items such as — tables, chairs, plates, and pitchers are transported in scale and media to create his art. This table is nearly ten feet tall and has an incredible presence due to its height. I felt like Alice in Wonderland being able to literally stand under a table.
Under the Table” by Robert Therrien c. 1994 at The Broad in Los Angeles.

I curled up the other night to watch for the very first time the 1950 film- “All About Eve”. Margo Channing [Bette Davis] is one of the biggest starts on Broadway and has just turned forty, she’s worried about what her advancing age will mean for her acting career. Eve Harrington [Anne Baxter] is the besotted fan of Margo’s and begins to manipulate her way into Margo’s life and career. The movie is based on the 1946 short-story “The Wisdom of Eve” by Mary Orr.

ALL ABOUT EVE, Fox, 1950. Producer: Darryl F. Zanuck. Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Starring Bette Davis. Left to right: Garry Merrill, Bette Davis as Carol Channing, Celeste Holm, Hugh Marlow

Profiteroles from Mon Ami Gabi in the Reston Town Center are cream puffs filled with a French choux pastry, but these were filled with ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce!!!

Sunsets at Heath are always spectacular at this time of year. The sky is filled with glorious fall colors such as; oranges, pinks, coppers and gorgeous browns. You feel as if you can watch the sky all night, but it changes rapidly to dark.

Thank you all for nine great years and look forward to another ninety. November is the time to spend indoors getting cozy, watching movies with family, and indulging in the occasional treat.

Remember to give when asked to assist those in need during these trying times. The holidays are upon us, and the weather is getting colder. We can all give a little something to make others more comfortable.

Dahlias

Last night we had our first frost and had to bring in several house plants that had been sitting on our deck. Several of these potted beauties have been in the family for years and require much love and attention with temps above 45 degrees.

I didn’t get to garden this year due to working long grueling hours this summer. I miss seeing the seasonal flowers of fall growing in the garden and have placed deep orange- and rust-colored chrysanthemums around the house.

Friends on Instagram have been posting gorgeous photos of their dahlias this fall, and my heart aches at seeing such beauty, and having allowed myself to be so busy and preoccupied to garden.

I’m going to spend this winter and any snow days drafting and designing my garden for the next year.I’m excited at the prospect of having beautiful flowers bloom each season once again. I went through my files and pulled photos of dahlias grown at Heath to enjoy and attempt to replicate next year.

Stay stylish,
Kathleen
