Louvre Abu Dhabi

The illustrious collection of the Louvre Abu Dhabi has a most comprehensive scope of art that ranges from prehistoric to contemporary. The museum has artifacts from Egypt and Mesopotamia along with paintings from Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet. Installations from Ai Weiwei are also darted throughout the galleries.

When sunlight filters through the roof of the Louvre Abu Dhabi it creates a moving “rain of light” beneath the dome, reminiscent of the overlapping dessert palm trees.

Construction took eight years and the museum spans over 260,000 square feet. The network of galleries are designed chronologically and are light filled. Half of the artworks that are part of the permanent collection are on loan from the Agence France-Musèums, which includes the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Versailles and Musée de l’Orangerie, and the museum will display four temporary exhibits each year.

Virginia’s Eastern Shore

Next, we are traveling east over the Chesapeake Bay to Chincoteague Island where Paul and Maria spent a few days swimming, biking and pony watching.

After doing a bit of research on this quaint town located on Virginia’s eastern shore, I found the historical aspect of the region was a draw for most tourists, along with riding or walking the trails that lead from Chincoteague to Assateague Island.

Here is a list of must see items while in this area.

  1. Wild Ponies
Here ponies run wild along the shores or swim across the channel when the tide is calm.
  2. Assateague Lighthouse
Built in 1833 and located on the Virginia portion of Assateague Island. Lights can be seen 19 miles out to sea, and this structure is placed on the National Register of Historic places.
  3. Sunset Cruises
Sit back and enjoy unbelievable views of Assateague’s wild ponies, dolphins and other wildlife while on these boat cruises. The sunset nature cruises offers a spectacular way to experience the beauty of this area.
