The Beauty of Spring

For me, beauty is a huge source of my happiness, I am always inspired by a passion for uniqueness, whether it is a sunset after a storm or the first buds of peonies, my eye can zero in on objects long before others begin to even notice the natural or creative presence within an item. Flowers are an integral part of our home, vases are interspersed on tables with fresh cuttings from the garden.

And when the opportunity arises it is imperative to take in a glorious sunset, which it is the perfect way to relax at the end of the day. This photograph taken by family friend C. Kelley in Lake Anne after a severe storm the other day was too beautiful to resist…..the sky is sheer perfection. Lastly, who can resist a delicious dessert for an after dinner treat, I just had to stop by the bakery for a chocolate cake to end the evening after a most tying days at work.

Always look for those combinations of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases your aesthetic senses and you will be surrounded by beauty!

And remember to stay stylish,
K

Great Wall, Mutianyu

fullsizerender fullsizerenderOur reporters have been in China for this long weekend keeping a jump ahead of the “black Friday” crowds with sightseeing and perusing art galleries. And, while shopping is a must, the main attractions were focusing on the cities of Shanghai and Beijing.

img_0213First on the list of sites is the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall located in Beijing’s Huairou District. These fortifications were built mainly of granite, wood, stone and other materials found around the countryside during construction. The primary purpose of this structure was border control, but there are intermittent watchtowers and garrison stations that were used to monitor goods transported during the Silk Road. The mountains are also a spectacular backdrop plus a natural defensive barrier.

Stay tuned for more,
K
