Trace at Hirshhorn

Ai Weiwei: Trace at Hirshhorn
Independence Avenue & 7th
 Street, SW
Washington, DC 20560

The retrospective exhibition Trace was an incredible installation that portrayed individuals from around the world who are considered activists; advocates for free speech or prisoners of conscience. The works that were on display have now left the Hirshhorn.

The provocative Chinese artist Ai Weiwei promotes human rights and free expression in a Communist society. And, who better to portray such repressed or persecuted individuals than

On the floor of the Hirshhorn are 176 portraits comprised of LEGO bricks of those who have been detained, incarcerated or sought political asylum.

Ai Weiwei uses an eclectic range of media when creating a political point; LEGO,  film, paintings, sculptures and architecture.

Enjoy,

Crème brûlée is always a welcome treat when the weather is not cooperating. It is comfort food at its simplest!

What better way to end the holiday weekend than with a few stylish favorites? I love discovering bits of new information from friends, reading or through shear observation, and then sharing these delightful tidbits on Stylish Heath. But, when one travels to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the holiday weekend, like our on the spot reporter Tony, what does one do when they arrive during the rainy season and cloud cover prevails? Well the next best thing of course…head to the nearest bakeries and patisseries along the shores of Ipanema and Copacabana in search of the best treats. Crème brûlée and tarts always hit the spot when the option for sun-bathing at the beach has been rained out.

Part one of the portrait of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, China’s most famous dissident, places flowers in the basket of a bike parked outside his home and will continue to do so until his passport is returned by the Chinese Government. When he was arrested in 2011 and held for 81 days without charge, this sparked global protest. With his passport confiscated Ai currently detained in China works under restricted conditions.

No matter what the form of conveyance I love beauty tips, whether word of mouth, sitting at the beauty salon, chatting at work or watching a video, we can always accept a piece of useful information communicated by an expert!

IMG_3811Practically every Palazzo has an art exhibit or installation as part of the undertaking and our on the spot reporters {Sean and Tony} scored big with their first photographs. An Ai Weiwei piece of 700 bicycles called Stacked, 2014 that we saw in the Brooklyn Museum of Art in August of this year is now in Venice outside of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti off the Grand Canal, these are exquisite shots.

Travel stylishly and enjoy!
