Destination: NYC

What was the last thing you did for play or fun?

I lead an extremely active and busy lifestyle taking care of the homestead at Heath. Don’t misunderstand …… I thoroughly enjoy cooking, gardening, cleaning and spending time with family, but there are times when these undertakings close in so, periodically I’ll schedule a massage or facial for a brief respite.

But, when life advances beyond usual or acceptable limits, it’s time for a planned escape…. preferably out of town for a bit of fun. Last week I spent four days in New York and had a wonderful time darting into museums to view exhibits ending in January, finding quaint establishments for dining, and even explored a bit of Chinatown in the frigid weather. The point being I was taken away from the ordinary to enjoy new experiences.

London + Paris

What cities do you want to visit?

As dynamic and spectacular as each of these cities appears, there is nothing like perusing the streets or arrondissements in order to discover a new bistro, shop or gallery. I want a return visit to London for their afternoon tea or visit the Borough Street Market for food items I cannot find at home such as chutneys, English mustards along with delectable wedges of Morbier and Stilton.

Upon returning from our last trip to Paris, I did my best to review notes on every aspect and feature of the city that caught my attention. The most memorable facet of our stay was dining at the Brasserie du Louvre located in the 1st arrondissement. They do a Sole Meunière which is prepared and fileted at your table. I’ve been striving to recreate this recipe, but I must return for further research into their preparation or flavors …. other than the melted butter or lemon.
