Destination Favorites

Today my inner child was poised and ready to take flight due to inclement weather. I timed my escape from work to stay home in order to draft a few post. Photographers from Stylish Heath have been sending images of their destinations, and I have not had a moment to cipher through the media. So, this morning I settled in with a pot of coffee, a small basket of scones and a bit of time on my side to create a few posts.{Check out this stylish sunset taken by Terlene at Ala Moana Park in Oahu, Hawaii with cloud formations in the sky. This is the time of day when you can sit to watch the view until it is completely dark}{Sculptures by David French at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah on Bay Street from front to back -Anima – Corpus- Spiritus, 2017}

{The stylish Napoleonic rooms photographed by Tony at the Chateau Fontainebleau are absolutely indulgent…. I mean who would like to come home each night to relax in these over decorated rooms or spend the evening on the Roue de Paris, the ferris wheel that has been installed on the Place de la Concorde in Paris}

It has been a while since having the opportunity to read text and view photographs from everyone’s journeys and these are pictures that truly stand out…so enjoy!

Joyeuses Fêtes de Paris

Our reporters are off to Europe for the holidays and the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in Maincy, located in southeastern Paris was first on their list of sites. And, what better way to start celebrating than at this French baroque château decorated in a most distinctively Gallic style.

IMG_0399This residence marked the beginning of the Louis XIV influence by combining the architecture of Louis Le Vau, interior design of painter-decorator Charles Le Brun and landscape designs by Andre Le Notre to create an extremely royal estate. Can anyone say Hugo Drax from the James Bond’s thriller Moonraker…”Cute isn’t it”!!!!

Next on their list of sites was the Boulevard Saint-Germain with a view of Notre Dame Cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité. A fine example of French Gothic design with the western facade illuminated by joyous decorations and lights.

Happy holidays!!!

French Theme

105_0511 105_0509 {Bronze sculpture of Neptune in the Versailles gardens and a bronze urn in the formal gardens}
I have many passions in life, but do love all things French. My devotion to eighteenth century art history and architecture is unwavering and I can remember while studying painting in college, it just felt right to focus on this period with all it’s toile, gilt and candelabras.

105_0508As I pour through garden catalogs and seed books, I have decided to lay out the gardens at Heath in a similar fashion to that of Versailles. Of course, I have no intention of moving vast amounts of earth or hiring a team of gardeners to work with me to create this vision. But, I do admire the details that have gone into the layout of the flowerbeds, fountains and the Orangerie. Remembering the botanical grounds and attempting to relay this beauty into my own garden will be a definite challenge. Envisioning the strong colors and textures of the flora, I cannot wait to get into the library to research the herbs and vegetables that were grown in the Court{s} of Madame de Pompadour and Marie Antoinette.

Stay tuned and garden stylishly,
K
